Downtown Infrastructure Improvement and Reconstruction Project

The City is replacing and upgrading the underground utility infrastructure in the downtown area starting just north of Central Square, down Main Street to the Winchester Street/Marlboro Street/Main Street intersection. Improvements include stormwater systems, water and sanitary sewer mains and services, traffic signals, electrical systems, and irrigation. This presents an exciting opportunity to also reconstruct curbs, sidewalks, and streets.
As part of the design process, the City invites the public, business owners, property owners, and downtown residents to participate this month in drop-in workshops and to submit comments through the project’s online website about needs or what elements can be improved on Main Street, including your ideas on street designs, potential locations of public gathering spaces or other amenities.
Local participation is critical to learning from residents, employees, and businesses regarding their concerns and goals for making Main Street work better in downtown.
In-person workshops will be held on Wednesday, June 29, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers, 2nd Floor City Hall, 3 Washington Street, Keene, NH 03431.  A neighborhood walk with the study team from the City and its consultant, Stantec, will take place at 5:30 PM, starting at Railroad Square on Main Street. Weather permitting, a pop-up workshop also will be held during the day on Main Street in Railroad Square.
Residents also are encouraged to submit comments and suggestions on the project website, which can be found at beginning on June 30, 2022.
