CENTRAL SQUARE TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGE

On Wednesday, July 15, the slip lane from Central Square to West Street (outbound direction) will be closed as Liberty Utilities continues their work. Motorists that wish to access West Street will be detoured south on Main Street to Gilbo Ave and will be directed back to West Street via School Street. Inbound traffic on West Street will open, but reduced to one lane. During the day, Central Square lanes heading south onto Main Street will be shifted from one side to the other as needed.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time and to seek alternate routes if possible. As always, please use extra care when driving through construction zones to help keep utility workers safe!

A heat advisory is in effect from 11AM today to 8PM tonight. High humidity with heat index values of 95 to 100 are possible. The Wednesday forecast is hot, as well.

Please drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside – wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Take action if you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

City pools (Wheelock Park and Robin Hood Park) are open today, and the Keene Public Library is open, as well. Check more local resources and info at: keenenh.gov/preparedness/extreme-heat-preparedness/

Beginning Monday, July 13, Liberty Utilities will begin work in Central Square to start replacing gas lines.

Most of the work will take place in the parking spaces on the west side of Central Square. During work hours, those parking spaces will generally be closed. In most cases, crews will reopen the spaces at the end of each workday so visitors can use them when dining, shopping, or visiting downtown businesses in the evenings, unless posted otherwise.

At times, crews may shift traffic lanes to safely complete the work. If needed, the slip lane from Central Square to West Street may close for up to a few days at a time. When that happens, drivers will follow a signed detour using Gilbo Avenue.

Please allow a little extra travel time, follow posted signs, and use caution when traveling through the work area.

We appreciate your patience and support as the Downtown Project construction begins. Your cooperation helps keep workers, residents, and visitors safe while improvements move forward. For more information on the project, please visit KeeneNH.gov/downtown
