The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of July 6, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution, follow posted detours, and allow additional travel time when traveling through active work zones.
Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project:
- Beginning Monday, July 6, City contractor Bazin Brothers will continue curb installation and drainage structure work on Marlboro Street between Main Street and Eastern Avenue. Alternating one-way traffic and shifted two-way traffic may be in place within the active work zone.
- Beginning Thursday, July 9, Bazin Brothers will also install a stormwater treatment system near Bartholomew Court. Bartholomew Court will be closed at Marlboro Street, and Public Works traffic will be detoured through the Keene Ice parking lot.
Key Road Culvert and Water Main Work:
- On Monday, July 6, Park Construction will continue installation of a box culvert near 68 Key Road. At 10:00 PM, water service between 40 and 68 Key Road will be temporarily shut off to relocate the water main where it crosses the new culvert. Alternating one-way traffic and detours will be in effect during construction. Affected businesses have been notified. This phase of work is expected to be completed by 8:00 AM on Tuesday.
- Beginning Tuesday, July 7, culvert installation will continue across the Staples parking lot within the City’s drainage easement and is expected to continue through the remainder of the week.
George Street Bridge Replacement: Beginning Monday, July 6, New England Infrastructure, Inc. will install utilities on the west side of the George Street Bridge. George Street will remain closed and traffic detoured throughout the project, which is expected to continue for approximately four months.
Sidewalk Improvements:
- Gardner Street: BC Construction will complete loaming, seeding, and cleanup work on Gardner Street through July 7, weather permitting. Alternating one-way traffic will be in place during active work hours, with normal traffic restored at the end of each business day.
- Jennison Street: Also beginning Monday, July 6, BC Construction will begin sidewalk installation on Jennison Street. Alternating one-way traffic will be in effect during construction. The project is expected to take approximately two weeks, weather permitting, with traffic returning to normal each evening.
Transportation Heritage Trail: Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance will continue grading and placing gravel and loam along the Transportation Heritage Trail near Eastern Avenue. No traffic impacts are anticipated.
City Hall Parking Garage: Structural Preservation Systems will continue repairs to handrails, snow gates, and stairs throughout the week. Beginning Monday, July 20, the parking garage deck will be closed nightly for approximately one week to allow installation of a protective traffic membrane, weather permitting.
Roxbury Street Storm Drain Work: Beginning Monday, July 6, Vortex Industries will clean and perform CCTV inspections of the storm drain beneath City Hall near Central Square. Some parking spaces and sidewalks may be temporarily closed or detoured. The work is expected to take approximately two days, with normal access restored at the end of each workday.
Main Street, from NH Route 101 to Marlboro Street: Beginning Wednesday, July 8, weather permitting, City Highway crews will pave the Elliot Street sidewalk. The sidewalk will be temporarily closed, and traffic may be shifted through the work zone. The project is expected to be completed in one day.
Silent Way: Beginning Thursday, July 9, weather permitting, the City’s Highway Division will pave Silent Way. Alternating one-way traffic and shifted traffic patterns may be necessary during construction. Work is expected to be completed in one day.
Ralston Street: Beginning Monday, July 6, the Water and Sewer Division will install protective bollards around a fire hydrant at the intersection of Ralston and Winchester Streets. Ralston Street will be closed at Winchester Street with a signed detour in place. The work is expected to be completed in one day.
Ward #1: Throughout the week Public Works crews will perform roadside mowing, tree trimming, and brush cutting on City-maintained streets in Ward 1 as part of the 2026 Ward Operations Week (WOW) program. Temporary alternating one-way traffic or shifted traffic patterns may be used as needed during work hours.
Public Works, 350 Marlboro Street: Construction will continue on the parking lot reconstruction project at the Public Works facility, 350 Marlboro Street. Visitor parking has been temporarily relocated to the lot adjacent to Bartholomew Court. The project is expected to be completed by the end of July, weather permitting. The City of Keene appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during these important infrastructure improvements. Additional project updates will be provided as work progresses.
