The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of July 13, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones, follow posted signage, and expect minor delays.
Central Square: On Monday, July 20, Liberty Utilities will be continuing the installation of a new gas main on the west side of Central Square. In order to safely perform the scope of this work, the parking spaces on Central Square between Winter Street and West Street will be closed during active construction and traffic may be required to be established as shifted traffic within the limits of the active work zone. This work will continue all week and is anticipated to take two weeks to complete. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.
Marlboro Street: On Monday, July 20, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers, will be continuing construction on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction project; performing curb installation and resetting and installing drainage structures on Marlboro Street from Main Street to Eastern Avenue. In order to safely perform the scope of this work, traffic will be required to be established as alternating one way and/or 2-way shifted traffic within the limits of the active work zone. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.
Key Road: On Monday, July 20 starting at 8:00 AM, the City’s contractor, Park Construction, will be paving Key Road and continuing installation of a box culvert between the Staples plaza and the Keene Cinema plaza. In order to safely perform this work, Key Road will be established as alternating one-way traffic and parking areas and travel lanes within the parking lots will be restricted and/or detoured as appropriate. Paving in Key Road is anticipated to be completed at the end of the business day and the box culvert installation is anticipated to continue all week and is scheduled to be completed in roughly six weeks.
Key Road: On Tuesday, July 21 starting at 6:00 AM, the contractor for the REVO Casino construction will be installing a new water service at 133 Key Road plaza. This work is not anticipated to impact Key Road traffic but may require parking and traffic restrictions within the Keene Cinema plaza / parking lot, effected business owners have been notified. This work is anticipated to take roughly 4 hours and the water service to the plaza is anticipated to be restored by 11:00 AM
George Street Bridge Replacement: On Monday, July 20 the City’s contractor, New England Infrastructure, Inc., will be installing utilities on the west side of the bridge. George Street will be closed, and traffic will be detoured for the remainder of the construction. This project’s scope of work is anticipated to take roughly 4 months to complete, additional updates will be provided as the project progresses.
Harrison Street: On Monday, July 20, the City’s contractor, BC Construction, will continue excavation and installation of curb and sidewalk on Harrison Street. In order to safely perform this work, Harrison Street at the locations of active construction will be established as alternating one-way traffic. This work on Harrison Street is anticipated to take the week to complete, weather permitting. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.
Eastern Avenue and THT Trail Head: On Monday, July 20 the City’s contractor, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance, will continue construction on the Transportation Heritage Trail performing site grading and installing gravel material within the limits of the trail. The scope of work being performed for the week is not anticipated to impact traffic operations.
City Hall Parking Garage: On Monday, July 20, the City’s contractor, Structural Preservation Systems, will be performing stair repairs and painting and installing concrete bases for lights being installed on the parking deck as part of the City Hall Parking Garage Project. This work is anticipated to continue all week. Starting Monday, July 27, the deck of the Parking Garage will be closed for one week, weather permitting, in order to install the protective traffic membrane on the concrete surface, this scope of work will be performed at night but the parking garage will remain closed during the day.
Elm Street: Starting on Monday, July 20, weather permitting, the City’s Highway staff will be paving the Elm Street sidewalk. In order to safely perform the scope of this work, the sidewalk will be temporarily closed and traffic may be required to be established as shifted traffic within the limits of these active work zones. This work is anticipated to take one day to complete, and traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of the working day.
North Street: Starting on Tuesday, July 21, weather permitting, the City’s Highway staff will be paving the North Street sidewalk. In order to safely perform the scope of this work, the sidewalk will be temporarily closed and traffic may be required to be established as shifted traffic within the limits of these active work zones. This work is anticipated to take one day to complete, and traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of the working day.
East Surry Road: Starting on Monday, July 20, weather permitting, the City’s Highway staff will be paving East Surry Road. In order to safely perform the scope of this work, traffic will be established as alternating one-way traffic within the limits of these active work zones. This work is anticipated to take three days to complete, and traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.
Drummer Road: Starting on Wednesday, July 22 at 8:00 AM, weather permitting, the City’s contractor, Strip It Seal It, will be milling and paving in proximity to 22 Drummer Road. In order to safely perform the scope of this work, traffic will be established as alternating one-way traffic within the limits of these active work zones. This work is anticipated to take one day to complete, and traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of the working day.
Ward #3 (Highway): Starting on Monday, July 20, the City’s Highway Crews will be performing roadside mowing, tree and bush trimming for City-maintained streets in Ward #3 as part of 2026 WOW. In order to safely perform the scope of this work, traffic may be required to be established as alternating one-way and/or 2-way shifted traffic within the limits of these active work zones. This work is anticipated to continue all week, and traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.
Ward #3 (Water & Sewer): Starting on Monday, July 20 at 7:00 AM, the City’s Water and Sewer Division will be performing curb stop resetting and replacement at various locations in Ward #3 as part of 2026 WOW. In order to safely perform the scope of this work, traffic (pedestrian and vehicle) will be required to be established as alternating one-way traffic within the limits of these active work zones. This work is anticipated to continue all week, and traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.
Public Works, 350 Marlboro Street: On Monday, July 20 starting at 8:00 AM the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers Trucking, will be paving the Public Works parking. In order to safely perform this work visitor parking has been temporarily relocated to the parking lot immediately adjacent to Bartholomew Court. Bartholomew Court will be closed and detoured to the Keene Ice access road Monday through Wednesday in order to perform this paving. This work is anticipated to be completed at the end of week.
