Important Notice to Voters
On behalf of the Supervisors of the Checklist, the Keene City Clerk's Office wants to inform voters of major changes that will impact voters participating in the School District Election on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, as well as future elections in Keene.
These changes are the result of House Bill 1569, which became effective November 11, 2024.
Key Changes for Registered Voters:
- Identity Verification: Every voter must prove their identity with a photo ID or personal verification by an Election Official in order to cast a ballot.
- No Affidavit Option: Voters can no longer sign an affidavit to verify their identity.
- Failure to Verify: A voter whose identity cannot be verified will not be allowed to vote.
New Voter Registration Requirements:
To register, you must provide documents proving your identity, age, domicile, and citizenship. Here are the easiest ways to meet these requirements:
- Identity: A photo ID or other reasonable proof of identification.
- Age: A birth certificate, U.S. passport, or another document listing your name and date of birth.
- Domicile: A New Hampshire driver’s license, non-driver ID, vehicle registration, U.S. government-issued photo ID, government check, benefit statement, or tax document showing your current address. If you do not have one of these, you must provide alternative documents and sign an Attestation of Not Possessing Qualified Proof Documents.
- Citizenship:
- If U.S.-born: Birth certificate or U.S. passport.
- If not U.S.-born: Naturalization papers or an appropriate document from the U.S. Department of State.
- If your name has changed, you must provide proof, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, adoption record, or court order.
