Building staff is responsible for the review, approval, issuance and inspection of all construction within the City of Keene. This includes but is not limited to structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, accessibility, energy efficiency, and Floodplain Development. These plan reviews and inspections are a necessity to ensure that buildings are constructed and/or renovated following the current State adopted building codes in a safe manner, protecting the property owner and their property. Our Building staff are certified through the International Code Council (ICC). We also participate in the Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule (BCEGS) and Community Rating System (CRS), programs through the Insurance Source Office (ISO) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which provide homeowners with a discount on their homeowners insurance and flood insurance.
