Sign-Up For A Storytime At The Keene Public Library

Through Storytimes, we hope to:

  • Share the best of children's literature and illustrations;
  • Introduce the library and its services to children and families
  • Teach children that the library is a helpful, friendly place where they can find materials to enrich their lives;
  • Encourage children to become lifelong readers;
  • Provide children with group activities and experiences;
  • Promote language development and provide verbal learning experiences;
  • Promote reading aloud at home by parents and caregivers.
  • Parents and caregivers are encouraged to use this opportunity to teach children listening and cooperative skills. The library has a few tips that can help make Keene Public Library Storytimes more fun and rewarding.

You can sign up for storytimes on our Public Event Calendar one month before they begin. Each session is between seven and nine weeks, with a three to four-week break between sessions so that your youth librarians can recharge. There is a three-week mini-session in December.

Don't forget that the library has many additional special family and youth programs. Check our Public Event Calendar for details.

  • Book Time with Babies and Toddlers

    Babies and toddlers experience brain stimulation through language and socialization. Engage your little one with new sights and sounds through books, songs, and rhymes. You can sign up online.

  • Preschool Storytime

    This storytime is for children three to six years of age that have not yet started kindergarten. Each storytime is a 30 to a 45-minute celebration of language. Storytime includes several books, songs, poems, and other book-related activities such as crafts and creative dramatics.

    Engage your preschoolers with books, activities, stories, and songs that encourage language and pre-reading skill development in order to help them grow into successful readers. You can sign up online.

  • Multi-Age Drop-in Family Storytime

    The library also often offers a family storytime on many Saturday mornings at 11 a.m.

    The whole family can enjoy stories, songs, and movement activities that support literacy and help foster a love of books and reading.

    Visit our Public Event Calendar.
