Mayor Kahn presented a proclamation to Keene, Ontario in celebration of their bicentennial on January 1st, 2025, to recognize the special bond that exists between our two communities. Two visionary individuals, John Gilchrist and Zacheus Burnham, with a deep appreciation for the beauty and spirit of New Hampshire, chose to name their newly established Canadian community after the picturesque town of Keene, New Hampshire. Though they had never resided within the borders of our charming valley, their choice of name for their settlement speaks volumes of their admiration for Keene, New Hampshire's natural splendor, its thriving community, and its enduring spirit. Just as Keene, New Hampshire is celebrated for its strong sense of community, Keene, Ontario, has also flourished, developing its own unique character while reflecting the spirit of its namesake. This shared heritage provides a unique opportunity for cultural exchange, fostering friendship and understanding between our two nations.
