Mayor Kahn read a proclamation at the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony held at Central Square on Friday, November 29th, 2024 encouraging all citizens to continue to attend and celebrate this holiday season kick-off event annually and support the Kiwanis Club in their efforts of making a difference in the lives of children. The Kiwanis Club is an international service organization focused on making a difference in the lives of children. The Kiwanis Club of Keene was founded in 1989 and has focused it’s efforts on Cheshire County youth through annual events, including, since 2013 the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Central Square. This beloved tradition brings joy and holiday cheer to our community, fostering a sense of togetherness and community spirit. This year’s event features festive activities, including musical singalongs with the Cheshiremen Chorus, a reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Mrs. Claus, ringing of the bells to welcome a visit from Santa Claus, and the dazzling lighting of the holiday tree, generously donated by the Denning Family. The Kiwanis Club’s efforts in organizing this event contribute to the vibrant atmosphere of our downtown area, and the tree lighting is an integral part of Plaid Friday encouraging us all to shop local stores.
