The City of Keene recognizes May 2026 as Bike Month in celebration of bicycling as a key part of a safe, accessible, and multi-modal transportation system. As a designated Bicycle Friendly Community and a nationally recognized Silver Bicycle Friendly Community, Keene continues to support active transportation through the work of its Bicycle and Pedestrian Path Advisory Committee and a broad network of community partners.
Bicycling offers a practical alternative to driving for short trips, helping to reduce traffic congestion, conserve energy, and improve air quality, while also supporting physical and mental health and aligning with workplace wellness goals. Throughout the month of May, local organizations including the Monadnock Alliance for Sustainable Transportation, Monadnock Food Co-op, Southwest Region Planning Commission, Healthy Monadnock Alliance, Monadnock Cycling Club, Pathways for Keene, the Keene YMCA, Kiwanis Club, Keene State College, and others work together to promote and encourage bicycling across the community.
Events such as Kiwanis Club’s Kool Wheels on May 2 and the Mayor’s Bike Ride on May 16 provide opportunities for residents of all ages to safely experience and enjoy cycling in Keene. Mayor Jay V. Kahn proclaims May 2026 as Bike Month in Keene and encourages all residents to embrace walking and bicycling as healthy, sustainable ways to travel to work, school, local businesses, parks, and throughout the community.
