The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of August 24, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones, follow posted signage, and expect minor delays.
Central Square: On Monday, August 24, Liberty Utilities will continue installing a new gas main on the east side of Central Square near City Hall, Washington Street, and Roxbury Street. To safely complete this work, parking spaces along City Hall and the Washington Street exit from Central Square will be closed during active construction. Detours will be established as needed. Work is expected to continue throughout the week, weather permitting. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal conditions at the end of each workday.
Central Square: On Monday, August 24, the City’s contractor, Casella Construction, Inc., will begin installing water main on the west side of Central Square. To safely complete this work, parking spaces will be closed, and traffic may be shifted or detoured as needed within the work zone. This work is expected to continue throughout the week. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal conditions at the end of each workday.
Beginning Wednesday, August 26, Casella Construction, Inc. will saw-cut the sidewalk along the east side of City Hall to facilitate installation of the new water main. This work is expected to take approximately two days to complete, weather permitting. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal conditions at the end of each workday.
Marlboro Street: On Monday, August 24, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers Trucking, will continue work on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project, including raising structures, installing curbing, and pouring sidewalks along Marlboro Street between Main Street and Eastern Avenue. To safely complete this work, traffic will be maintained as alternating one-way traffic and/or shifted two-way traffic within the active work zone. Traffic will be restored to normal conditions at the end of each workday.
Key Road: On Monday, August 24, the City’s contractor, Park Construction, will pave the Staples, State Offices, and Brickhouse parking lots; perform site restoration and cleanup; and finalize installation of the box culvert, catch basins, and tributary culverts in and behind the Keene Cinema Plaza. Parking areas and travel lanes within the parking lots will be restricted or detoured as needed. This work is anticipated to be completed by September 4, 2026.
George Street Bridge Replacement: On Monday, August 24, the City’s contractor, New England Infrastructure, Inc., will begin installing the water main. George Street will remain closed, with traffic detoured, for the remainder of construction. The project is anticipated to take approximately 15 weeks to complete. Additional updates will be provided as the project progresses.
Eastern Avenue and THT Trailhead: On Monday, August 24, the City’s contractor, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance, will continue work on the Transportation Heritage Trail, including installing gravel on the trail and trailhead in preparation for paving. To safely complete this work, the trailhead parking area will be closed. This work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks, with the overall project expected to be completed in October 2026.
City Hall Parking Garage: On Monday, August 24, the City’s contractor, Structural Preservation Systems, will install the traffic membrane on the parking deck during nighttime hours. The parking deck will remain closed through September 4, weather permitting. The parking garage is anticipated to reopen and resume normal operations following completion of this work.
Aldrich Road: Beginning Monday, August 24, the City’s Highway Division will replace a drainage culvert. To safely complete this work, Aldrich Road will be closed to through traffic and detoured. The work is anticipated to take two days to complete, with traffic restored to normal conditions at the end of each workday.
Belvedere Road: Beginning Tuesday, August 25, the City’s Highway Division will pave Belvedere Road. To safely complete this work, traffic will be restricted to alternating one-way traffic within the work zone. This work is anticipated to take three days to complete, with traffic restored to normal conditions at the end of each workday.
