An extreme heat warning is in effect from 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 23rd to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 24th.
Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 108 degrees are expected. Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Stay in an air-conditioned room (seek places that have air conditioning if you do not have it at home – such as the public library or the Keene Family YMCA which opens its lobby to the public during extreme weather). City pools are also now open.
- Stay out of the sun
- Check on relatives and neighbors
Please do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Heat Stroke
- Signs –
- Extremely high body temperature (above 103 degrees F) taken orally
- Red, hot and dry skin with no sweat
- Rapid, strong pulse
- Dizziness, confusion or unconsciousness
If you suspect heat stroke, call 9-1-1 or get the person to a hospital immediately. if possible: move the person suffering from heat stroke into a cool, shaded area; remove any outer clothing; place a cold wet cloth or ice pack on the head, neck, armpits and groin, or soak the person’s clothing with cool water; elevating their feet.
