Permit Fee Email Scam

City advises Keene residents and businesses to be aware of permitting fee scam.

A sophisticated email scam is circulating that targets individuals and businesses with fraudulent invoices from the City. The messages request payment for a permit fee or application fee for development projects.  Scammers design fraudulent emails to appear authentic and may incorporate detailed project information to deceive recipients into believing they owe permitting fees.

Keene residents and businesses are advised to exercise extreme caution when reviewing emails that appear to be from the City of Keene. Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, making it difficult to spot their tactics.  We urge all to carefully examine emails claiming to be from the City for unusual or suspicious sender email addresses, unfamiliar or lengthy links, misspellings or grammatical errors, and urgent or threatening language.

The most reliable way to verify any request for payment or information from the City is to contact the relevant department directly using the official contact information provided on our website at www.KeeneNH.gov.  Never use contact information provided in a suspicious email.
