Scam Alert – Fraudulent Payment Requests

Scammers are sending fraudulent payment requests to Keene residents and businesses that appear to be from the City.

Protect yourself from invoice and payment scams:

  • Be suspicious of any email or other communication that appears to come from the City and includes wire transfer instructions or unexpected payment requests.
  • Check the sender’s full email address carefully. Don’t rely on the display name alone.
  • Never use contact information or phone numbers provided in a suspicious message to verify a payment request.
  • Before sending money or changing payment instructions, call the City office you normally work with using a phone number you already know or have independently verified.

When in doubt, stop and verify. If you receive a suspicious message that appears to come from the City of Keene, contact the appropriate City office directly before taking action. A quick phone call can help protect you from financial loss.
