Spring Water System Flushing Continues 5/10/26

The City of Keene Public Works Department will continue its annual spring water main flushing program on Sunday, May 10, 2026 at 10:00 PM. Work will be performed at night between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM to minimize any inconvenience to our customers in the form of discolored water or traffic delays.

This maintenance program is designed to clean mineral deposits from the water mains. It allows us to exercise city water valves and hydrants to keep them operational for firefighting, water main breaks and other emergencies.The third week of flushing will end at 6:00 AM on Friday, May 15, 2026. The following areas will be affected during the week: It may vary from what is listed below, depending on weather and mechanical issues.

  • Black Brook Road area
  • Bowman Drive
  • Branch Road
  • Chapman Road
  • Emerald Street
  • Forge Street
  • Key Road
  • Leverett Street
  • Marlboro Road
  • Mayflower Drive
  • Middletown Road
  • Pearl Street area
  • Production Avenue
  • River Street
  • Roxbury Road
  • School Street
  • Summit Road
  • Swanzey Factory Road
  • Vine Street
  • Woodburn Street
  • Wyman Road

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience you may experience and ask for your patience during this process which should run 3-4 weeks. If you experience any discolored water, close all taps in your home except one, run your cold water for 10 minutes and water should run clear. If water does not clear up, close the tap, wait 30 minutes and repeat process again.  If you experience any laundry staining, please do not dry the laundry and contact Public Works at (603) 352-6550. We will give you a product designed to remove the stains.
