Police Social Worker

The police social worker (PSW) is a civilian position within the Keene Police Department’s Administrative Services Division. The PSW functions as a fully integrated team member and provides the department with the ability to conduct follow-ups, referral services, and care coordination for those suffering from substance use disorders (SUD), mental health (MH) issues, or co-occurring issues.

The goal of the PSW is to work as a liaison with various social service agencies and clinical providers to provide direct follow-up referrals to individuals and families post-police/emergency response intervention.

  • Provide wrap-around collaboration with other city agencies to coordinate care.
  • Follow up with individuals or families after police interactions to provide clear direction on how to obtain appropriate services available within the community, and help them follow through if needed.
  • Provide short-term case management when appropriate.

The PSW is not a co-response clinician and will not be responding to emergency calls.  Emergency personnel will still need to address active safety concerns.

PSW services are initiated by police officers and Keene Fire referrals.

If you have any questions - Keene's PSW can be reached at 603-357-9815 Ext. 7276.
