Mayor Kahn presented a proclamation at Keene State College to declare March 31st, 2025 “Octavio Brito Day” in honor of his extraordinary athletic accomplishments and his significant contributions to the pride and spirit of our community, both on and off the court. Over four years the greater Keene community has fallen in love with a talented student from Rhode Island, with a one of a kind first name, Octavio Brito. We have watched him mature into a remarkably talented basketball player, recently recognized as the outstanding basketball player of the year in Division III, which includes over 400 colleges and universities. Octavio Brito’s exceptional athletic ability and dedication throughout his Keene State College basketball career, has led to remarkable individual milestones and his team’s historic success. Octavio’s 2,206 career points placed him second in program history, and amongst top-ten rankings in numerous other categories, showcasing his extraordinary talent and impact on the game. His individual accolades, such as the LEC Rookie of the Year, three-time First Team All-Conference selection, LEC Player of the Year, and three-time All-American honors, culminating in the NABC Player of the Year award, a historic first for any Keene State College athlete, highlight his outstanding achievements and national recognition. Octavio’s contributions were integral to the team’s success, leading the Owls over his four years as a student-athlete to a 98-19 record, marking the most successful four-year period in the program’s history. Octavio’s leadership and talent raised the level of Keene State’s basketball performance to dominate the Little East Conference over the four years in which he played, including an undefeated conference season, a No. 4 national ranking, and the hosting of NCAA Division III tournament rounds, bringing national attention to Keene State College and the City of Keene.
