Notice to residents and downtown customers of a planned electrical outage on Thursday, September 17, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, as Eversource performs important reliability work on the downtown electric system. City Hall and several nearby facilities will be without power during this four‑hour window.
This scheduled work involves a detailed inspection of a downtown manhole and associated electrical components following a previous incident in which the manhole was observed smoking due to extreme heat. Crews will be assessing splices and wiring to identify any damage and ensure the system continues to operate safely.
This proactive maintenance is intended to reduce the risk of future unplanned outages, improve system reliability, and support the long‑term stability of critical downtown infrastructure.
Eversource has notified impacted customers directly by letter and automated phone call. If weather or other conditions require rescheduling, the alternate date for this work is Friday, September 18.
