Good morning,
Casella Construction, Inc., continued making progress on downtown utility upgrades last week, focusing on water main installation along the south side of Central Square from West Street toward Roxbury Street. Crews also continued connecting buildings on the east and west sides of Central Square to the new water service.
Planned Work Activities
- Monday, October 12–Friday, October 16: Casella will continue installing the new water main along the south side of Central Square toward Roxbury Street and south to Main Street. Crews will also continue connecting buildings on the east side of Central Square to the new water service.
- Crews may work past 5:00 p.m. to take advantage of daylight and favorable weather conditions and maintain productivity. Traffic and parking will be restored by the end of each workday.
Parking Impacts
- Monday, October 12–Friday, October 16: Several parking spaces on the east and west sides of Central Square will be closed from 7:00 a.m. until work is complete each day.
- Parking spaces marked with orange cones or barriers are designated No Parking zones.
- Several public parking lots within walking distance will remain open. For locations and details, visit the City’s Parking Services webpage.
Traffic Impacts and Detours
- Monday, October 12–Friday, October 16: Northbound and southbound traffic through Central Square will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction.
- As crews prepare to connect the new water main to the existing system, temporary lane shifts and road closures may occur at the Central Square intersections with Roxbury, Washington, and Court streets. Traffic may be detoured via School Street, Union Street, and Gilbo Avenue as needed.
- Construction activities and traffic impacts may change as work progresses. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to stay alert, use caution, and be prepared for changing traffic patterns throughout the project area.
