Mayor Kahn presented a proclamation on October 16th before the City Council to Melissa Callender and Eli Rivera to congratulate Monadnock Peer Support on their 30th Anniversary and urge all residents to recognize and celebrate their profound commitment and contributions to the mental health and well-being of our community. Monadnock Peer Support (MPS) is celebrating its 30th Anniversary serving the Monadnock Region, with a powerful mission to provide mental health support through a mutually supportive peer community, built on connection and the belief that recovery is possible. For three decades, MPS has offered all its vital services completely free of charge to adults, focusing primarily on the 23 towns of Cheshire County, where it supported over 350 individuals last year alone. MPS utilizes a proven, evidence-based peer model, offering essential programs including 30 or more weekly peer-led support groups, transitional living program Step-Up-Step-Down (SUSD), and life-saving Crisis Respite stays to help individuals stabilize without hospitalization. By deploying this effective peer-support model, MPS significantly reduces isolation and builds resilience, leading to fewer emergency room visits, psychiatric hospitalizations, and law enforcement encounters, that result in cost savings throughout the County. MPS extends its reach through community outreach at sites like the Cheshire County Jail and Keene State College, while actively collaborating with key partners such as Cheshire Medical Center and The Doorway to provide coordinated care and ensure maximum community impact.
