Calling all aspiring artists, illustrators, and comic creators! Keene Public Library will host Alexandra Bye, a New York Times Bestselling Children’s Illustrator, for a discussion and hands- on illustration program on March 26 at 4:00 p.m. Registration for this event is available on the library website or by contacting Scout Mercer at 603-352-0157 ext. 6106 or via email at smercer@keenenh.gov.
Alexandra Bye is the illustrator for a number of children’s books and graphic novels, including When Sally O’Malley Discovered the Sea, Who’s That Girl, The Only Woman in the Photo, We Could be Heroes, Absolutely Positively Natty, the Weenie series, A Dinosaur Named Ruth, and Fly, Girl, Fly. Alexandra Bye loves bringing stories to life that encourage people to challenge impossibilities and become brave enough to share their stories as well.
With Alexandra’s strong emphasis on prominent women in history and current day trend setters, she will provide a workshop that demonstrates why everyone’s unique story is valuable in contributing to collective empathy and creativity. With her historical books as backup, Alexandra looks at events like the New Deal and how important it is not to give up when the world is telling you no!
Alexandra will guide participants through her journey as an artist and illustrator, describe the process to create a book, and help to give these creative kids the knowledge to move forward with their own dreams. Alexandra comes packed with the encouragement necessary to silence any young patrons with an “I can’t draw” argument, because anyone can be an artist!
