The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of September 4, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones, follow posted signage, and expect minor delays.
Central Square: On Tuesday, September 8, the City’s contractor, Casella Construction, Inc., will begin installing new water main along the north end of Central Square, starting near the intersection with Court Street and progressing east toward Washington Street throughout the week. To safely complete this work, parking spaces will be closed, and traffic shifts, road closures, and detours will be in place as needed within the work zone. This work is anticipated to continue throughout the week. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each workday.
Marlboro Street: On Tuesday, September 8, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers Trucking, will continue construction on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project, including full-depth pavement replacement in front of Keene Ice and raising structures in preparation for paving along Marlboro Street. To safely complete this work, traffic will be maintained as alternating one-way and/or two-way shifted traffic within the active work zone. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each workday.
George Street Bridge Replacement: On Tuesday, September 8, the City’s contractor, New England Infrastructure, Inc., will continue preparations for setting the precast bridge structure. George Street will remain closed, with traffic detoured for the remainder of construction. The project is anticipated to take approximately 15 weeks to complete. Additional updates will be provided as the project progresses.
Eastern Avenue and THT Trailhead: On Tuesday, September 8, the City’s contractor, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance, will continue construction at the Transportation Heritage Trail, including installation of gravel, fencing, and concrete sidewalks along the trail and trailhead in preparation for paving, which is scheduled to begin September 8. To safely complete this work, trailhead parking will be closed. This work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks, with the overall project anticipated to be completed in October 2026.
