Good afternoon,
There was quite a bit of activity in Central Square this past week. Liberty Utilities completed the installation of new gas lines and the tie-in to the existing system on the west and south sides of Central Square. Casella Construction, the City’s construction contractor, began exploratory excavation at critical utility connection points where West Street, Washington Street, and Roxbury Street enter Central Square. Tree removal within Central Square was also completed Thursday and Friday.
You can expect a similar level of activity next week, with temporary impacts to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Liberty Utilities:
Liberty Utilities will begin installing a new gas line on the east side of Central Square near Roxbury Street. Parking on the east side of Central Square will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Drivers should anticipate periodic lane shifts to allow Liberty Utilities to safely complete the work.
Casella Construction:
Casella will continue exploratory excavation where Court Street enters Central Square beginning Monday. Access from Court Street to Central Square will be detoured. Drivers traveling south on Court Street will be directed to turn right onto School Street, then left onto West Street.
Casella will also continue preparations for the installation of new sewer and water lines. Three (3) trees on the west side of Central Square will be removed Wednesday for transplanting. To provide a safe work area, parking on the west side of Central Square will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Drivers should expect periodic lane shifts and temporary detours as Casella completes its work. Traffic signs, flaggers, and cones will be used to help protect the work zones.
As construction activity increases in Central Square, motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to remain alert, use caution, and anticipate changing traffic patterns.
