The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of August 3, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones, follow posted signage, and expect minor delays.
Central Square: On Monday, August 3, Liberty Utilities will continue installing a new gas main on the west side of Central Square near West Street. To safely perform this work, West Street will be closed during active construction. Detours will be established as needed to reroute traffic. This work is anticipated to continue throughout the week, weather permitting. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each workday.
Marlboro Street: On Monday, August 3, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers, will continue construction on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project by installing curb and pouring sidewalk on Marlboro Street between South Street and Dartmouth Street. To safely perform this work, traffic will be maintained as alternating one-way traffic and/or shifted two-way traffic within the active work zone. Normal traffic operations will resume at the end of each workday.
Key Road: On Monday, August 3, the City’s contractor, Park Construction, will continue installation of the box culvert behind the Keene Cinema Plaza and install drainage within the Staples and Keene Cinema plazas. Parking areas and travel lanes within the plazas will be restricted and/or detoured as necessary. This work is anticipated to continue throughout the week and is expected to be completed in approximately three weeks.
George Street Bridge Replacement: On Monday, August 3, the City’s contractor, New England Infrastructure, Inc., will continue installing support-of-excavation systems (sheeting) and utilities. George Street will remain closed, and traffic will be detoured for the duration of construction. The project is anticipated to take approximately 15 weeks to complete. Additional updates will be provided as work progresses.
Harrison Street: On Monday, August 3, the City’s contractor, BC Construction, will continue sidewalk installation on Harrison Street. Harrison Street will be closed to through traffic during construction. This work is anticipated to take the week to complete, weather permitting. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each workday.
Wilson Street: Starting Thursday, August 6, the City’s contractor, Vortex, will be lining storm drains on Wilson Street north of Emerald Street. Wilson Street will be closed to through traffic during construction. This work is anticipated to take two days to complete, weather permitting. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each workday.
Eastern Avenue and Transportation Heritage Trail Head: On Monday, August 3, the City’s contractor, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance, will continue construction on the Transportation Heritage Trail, including reconstruction of the trailhead and drainage installation. Trailhead parking will be closed throughout the week. This work is anticipated to continue for several weeks, with project completion expected in October 2026.
City Hall Parking Garage: On Monday, August 3, the City’s contractor, Structural Preservation Systems, will continue concrete repairs in preparation for installation of the traffic membrane. The parking deck will remain closed until approximately August 17, weather permitting, at which time normal parking operations are expected to resume.
West Street: Starting Tuesday, August 4, weather permitting, the City’s Highway Division will pave the West Street sidewalks west of the NH Route 9/12 overpass. Alternating one-way traffic will be maintained through the work zone. This work is anticipated to take two days to complete. Normal traffic operations will resume at the end of each workday.
Aldrich Road: On Monday, August 3, weather permitting, the City’s Highway Division will pave Aldrich Road near 19 Aldrich Road. Alternating one-way traffic will be maintained within the active work zone. This work is anticipated to take one day to complete. Normal traffic operations will resume at the end of the workday.
Ward 5 (Highway): On Monday, August 3, the City’s Highway Division will begin roadside mowing, tree trimming, and brush trimming on City-maintained streets in Ward 5 as part of the 2026 WOW program. Traffic may be maintained as alternating one-way traffic and/or shifted two-way traffic within active work zones as needed. This work is anticipated to continue throughout the week. Normal traffic operations will resume at the end of each workday.
