The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of October 5, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones, follow posted signage, and expect minor delays.
Central Square: On Monday, October 5, the City’s contractor, Casella Construction, will continue installing water utilities in Central Square. To safely complete this work, parking spaces and sections of Central Square within the active construction zone will be temporarily shifted, closed, or detoured. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal operating conditions by the end of each business day. Please refer to the Downtown Construction press release for a more detailed summary of planned construction activities, closures, and detours.
Marlboro Street: On Monday, October 5, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers Trucking, will continue work on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project, including installation of the remaining sidewalk panels, street signs, loam and seed, and plantings along Marlboro Street from Baker Street to Eastern Avenue. To safely complete this work, traffic will be reduced to alternating one-way traffic and/or shifted two-way traffic within the active work zone. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each workday. This work is anticipated to continue throughout the week, with road paving scheduled to begin either Friday or the following week, weather permitting.
George Street Bridge Replacement: On Monday, October 5, the City’s contractor, New England Infrastructure, Inc., will continue streambed restoration and install the George Street bridge. George Street will remain closed, with traffic detoured for the remainder of construction. The remaining project work is anticipated to take approximately eight weeks to complete. Additional updates will be provided as the project progresses.
Eastern Avenue and THT Trailhead: On Monday, October 5, the City’s contractor, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance, will continue work to install fencing and fence slats, complete gravel shoulders, and finish cleanup and other remaining project work. The remaining work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks, with the project expected to be completed by October 16, weather permitting. The City of Keene appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during these projects. For the safety of workers and the traveling public, please slow down, follow all posted traffic control devices, and use caution when traveling through construction areas.
