Good afternoon,
Casella Construction, Inc. continued advancing downtown utility upgrades this past week, focusing on water main installation along the southeast side of Central Square. Crews installed new water main extending east toward Roxbury Street and made progress on connections to the existing water mains on Court Street and Washington Street. This work prepares the system for filling and pressure testing next week.
Planned Work Activities
- Monday, October 26–Friday, October 30: Crews will continue installing water main along the east side of Central Square near Roxbury Street and water service connections near City Hall. The newly installed water main around Central Square will be filled and pressure-tested early in the week. Crews will also begin sewer and drainage upgrades at the Roxbury Street intersection and exploratory excavation along Main Street, north from Water Street, to locate existing utilities.
- Extended Work Hours: Crews may work past 5:00 p.m. to take advantage of daylight and favorable weather, maintain the project schedule, and restore traffic and parking lanes by the end of each workday.
Parking Impacts
- Monday, October 26–Friday, October 30: Several parking spaces on the east and west sides of Central Square will be closed from 7:00 a.m. until work is completed each day.
- No Parking Zones: Parking spaces blocked by orange cones or barriers are designated as No Parking zones.
- Alternative Parking: Several public parking lots within walking distance remain open. For parking locations and details, visit the City’s Parking Services webpage.
Traffic Impacts and Detours
- Roxbury Street/Central Square Intersection: The intersection will be closed Monday, October 26, through Friday, October 30. Traffic traveling from Roxbury Street into Central Square will be detoured via Franklin Street and Beaver Street.
- Main Street Lane Shifts: Temporary lane shifts and closures will be in effect throughout the week on the north and south sides of Main Street, between Water Street and Central Square.
- Stay Alert: Construction activities and traffic impacts may change as work progresses. Motorists and pedestrians should use caution and be prepared for changing traffic patterns throughout the project area.
