The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of September 21, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones, follow posted signage, and expect minor delays.
Central Square: On Monday, September 21, the City’s contractor, Casella Construction, Inc., will continue construction operations to install water and sewer utilities in Central Square. To safely perform this work, parking spaces and sections of Central Square within the active work zone will be temporarily shifted, closed, or detoured. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal operating conditions by the end of each business day. Please refer to this week’s Downtown Construction update for a more detailed summary of construction activities and closures.
Marlboro Street: On Monday, September 21, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers Trucking, will continue construction on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project. Work will include completing concrete sidewalks, installing loam and rain gardens, landscaping, and preparing for final paving on Marlboro Street from Winchester Street to Eastern Avenue. To safely perform this work, traffic will be maintained as alternating one-way and/or shifted two-way traffic within the active work zone. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each workday. This work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks, with paving scheduled for the end of September and project completion anticipated in October 2026.
George Street Bridge Replacement: On Monday, September 21, the City’s contractor, New England Infrastructure, Inc., will continue setting precast sections of the George Street Bridge. To safely perform this work, George Street will remain closed, with traffic detoured for the remainder of construction. The project is anticipated to take approximately nine weeks to complete. Additional updates will be provided as the project progresses.
Eastern Avenue and THT Trail: On Monday, September 21, the City’s contractor, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance, will continue construction on the Transportation Heritage Trail. Work will include installing gravel shoulders along the trail and around recently paved trail and trailhead parking areas, installing fencing, completing site and project cleanup, and paving, weather permitting. To safely perform this work, trailhead parking will remain closed until striping is completed. The parking area is anticipated to reopen by the end of the week. This work is anticipated to take approximately one week, weather permitting, with project completion anticipated in early October 2026.
