The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of July 13, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones, follow posted signage, and expect minor delays.
Central Square: Beginning Monday, July 13, Liberty Utilities will install a new gas main on the west side of Central Square. To safely perform this work, parking spaces between Winter Street and West Street will be closed during active construction, and traffic may be shifted within the work zone. This work is anticipated to continue all week. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal operations at the end of each workday.
Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project: On Monday, July 13, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers, will continue construction on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project by installing granite curb and resetting and installing drainage structures between Main Street and Eastern Avenue. Alternating one-way traffic and/or two-way shifted traffic may be in place within the active work zone.
Key Road: On Monday, July 13, the City’s contractor, Park Construction, will continue installing a box culvert in the parking lot at 68 Key Road. Alternating one-way traffic and detours may be required during construction. This work is anticipated to continue through the remainder of the week.
George Street Bridge Replacement: On Monday, July 13, the City’s contractor, New England Infrastructure, Inc., will install utilities on the west side of the bridge. George Street will remain closed, and traffic will be detoured for the duration of the project. This construction is anticipated to take approximately four months, with additional updates provided as work progresses.
Jennison Street: On Monday, July 13, the City’s contractor, BC Construction, will continue installing granite curb, pouring concrete sidewalks, and performing cleanup work on Jennison Street. Alternating one-way traffic will be in effect within active work areas. This work is expected to continue throughout the week, weather permitting, with normal traffic restored at the end of each workday.
Eastern Avenue and Transportation Heritage Trail Trailhead: On Monday, July 13, the City’s contractor, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance, will continue construction on the Transportation Heritage Trail by performing site grading and installing gravel and loam within the trail corridor. This work is not expected to impact traffic operations.
City Hall Parking Garage:
- Beginning Monday, July 13, the City’s contractor, Structural Preservation Systems, will power wash and prepare the parking garage deck for installation of a protective traffic membrane. This work is anticipated to continue all week.
- Beginning Monday, July 20, the parking garage will be closed for approximately one week, weather permitting, to allow installation of the protective traffic membrane. Although work will be performed overnight, the parking garage will remain closed during the day.
Reservoir Street: Beginning Tuesday, July 14, weather permitting, City Highway Division crews will pave the Reservoir Street sidewalk. The sidewalk will be temporarily closed, and traffic may be shifted around the work area. This work is expected to be completed in one day, with normal traffic operations restored by the end of the day.
Brooks Street: Beginning Wednesday, July 15, weather permitting, City Highway crews will pave the Brooks Street sidewalk. The sidewalk will be temporarily closed, and traffic may be shifted around the work area. This work is expected to be completed in one day, with normal traffic operations restored by the end of the day.
Ward #2: Beginning Monday, July 13, Public Works crews will perform roadside mowing, tree trimming, and brush trimming on City-maintained streets throughout Ward 2 as part of the City’s 2026 Ward Optimization Weeks (WOW!) program. Alternating one-way traffic and/or two-way shifted traffic may be in place within active work zones. This work is expected to continue throughout the week, with normal traffic restored at the end of each workday.
Public Works Facility – 350 Marlboro Street: On Monday, July 13, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers Trucking, will continue paving work as part of the Public Works parking lot reconstruction project. Visitor parking has been temporarily relocated to the lot adjacent to Bartholomew Court. This project is anticipated to be completed by the end of July, weather permitting.
