Mayor Kahn presented a proclamation before the City Council on May 1st, 2025, to declare May “Frontline Worker Appreciation Month” and encouraged all residents to recognize and honor the work and contributions of teachers and paraprofessionals, healthcare workers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and teachers. Every day dedicated frontline workers including nurses, teachers, police officers, firefighters, emergency medical services personnel, and countless others in vital roles, stand as pillars of our community, providing essential services that ensure our safety, health, and well-being, and prepare students for responsible positions in our community. Each May, our nation traditionally recognizes the invaluable contributions of specific frontline professions through National Nurses Month, Teacher Appreciation Week, National Police Week, Firefighter Appreciation Day, and National EMS Week and this year there is a nationwide call to broaden this recognition and spotlight the collective impact of all frontline workers as part of Frontline Worker Appreciation Month. The educators of the greater SAU29 area demonstrate unwavering dedication and adaptability in the face of evolving educational landscapes. They craft engaging lessons, differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and provide individualized support to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. Throughout the City of Keene, the healthcare professionals in our clinics, long-term care facilities, in-home care providers, and the 500 nurses at Cheshire Medical Center diligently provide essential and often lifesaving care, demonstrating a profound commitment to our community’s well-being. The City of Keene demonstrates its commitment to public safety through the dedication of its Fire Department, comprised of 48 line positions, 2 administrative positions, and 2 chiefs, alongside the tireless efforts of its 44 sworn law enforcement officers and the vital contributions of Emergency Medical Technicians who provide essential pre-hospital care. During times of crisis, such as natural disasters and public health emergencies, frontline workers have consistently demonstrated their crucial role in maintaining essential services and bolstering community resilience.
