On Monday, April 24, 2023, the Island Street Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic. Access to Pearl Street from Winchester Street will also be restricted. This initial closure is needed to provide adequate space and safety to the City’s contractor to install underground utilities at the Winchester Street, Pearl Street, and Island Street intersection.
Once this happens, there will be a number of signed detours in place for road users to find their way to Winchester Street, West Street, and Pearl Street. Maps are available on the project website to help guide road users in advance of the closures. Pedestrian access will be initially maintained over the bridge until early to mid-May, when bridge removal will begin.
The Island Street Bridge will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians for the entirety of the bridge removal and replacement work. The expected re-opening date is mid-December 2023. We thank you in advance for your patience. As always, please check out the project website or the Keene Public Works Facebook page for updates as things progress.
