Mayor Kahn presented a proclamation to the President of Savings Bank of Walpole, Mark Bodin to proclaim July 2nd, 2025, Savings Bank of Walpole Day in recognition of 150 years of local leadership, partnership and impact. Savings Bank of Walpole was chartered as a mutual savings bank by the New Hampshire Legislature on July 2, 1875, to encourage savings and financial well-being for all. SBW remains the only bank headquartered in Cheshire County, having three branches in the city and a total of seven throughout the Monadnock Region. SBW has faithfully served our region through 150 years of historic events, including world wars, economic downturns, and global pandemics, always with a steadfast commitment to its customers and community. Today, Savings Bank of Walpole has 24,000 customers, $800 million of deposits and $600 million of loans to local families, businesses, and nonprofits. As a mutual savings bank with no shareholders, SBW puts its customers first leading with heart, strength, and 150 years of deep community roots. Embodying their motto, “We put community first,” CEO Mark Bodin challenged his staff to perform 150 good deeds in honor of their 150th year, with completed deeds and suggestions visible on their website. The City of Keene is most appreciative of the SBW leadership team’s service on the board of directors of many area not-for-profit organizations providing valuable expertise and financial acumen.
