This week, Liberty Utilities has been working to connect the new pipes on the west and south sides of Central Square to the existing system. This work will continue next week.
Beginning Monday, access from Court Street to Central Square will be detoured. Drivers traveling south on Court Street will be directed to turn right onto School Street and then left onto West Street.
Also on Monday, Casella will begin exploratory excavation at critical utility connection points where Court Street, Washington Street, Roxbury Street, and West Street enter Central Square. The work will initially take place within Liberty Utilities’ existing traffic control area, so drivers may not notice significant changes. Once the work moves to Roxbury Street and Washington Street, additional flaggers and coned-off areas will be used to protect the work zones.
Next week, drivers will also see semi-permanent construction signs installed around the perimeter of the project. These signs are intended to alert drivers who do not frequently visit the City that they are entering an active construction area. They will be supplemented by movable signs that will be adjusted day to day as work progresses.
Tree removals are also scheduled to begin later next week, tentatively Wednesday or Thursday. Temporary impacts to pedestrian traffic are expected as trees are removed and branches are lowered to the sidewalk.
