The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of August 10, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones, follow posted signage, and expect minor delays.
Central Square: On Monday, August 10, Liberty Utilities will continue installing a new gas main on the west side of Central Square near West Street. To safely perform this work, West Street will be closed during active construction. Detours will be established as needed to reroute traffic. This work is anticipated to continue throughout the week, weather permitting. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each workday.
Central Square: Starting Monday, August 10, the City’s contractor, Casella Construction, Inc., will perform test pits in Central Square. Shifted traffic, road closures, and detours will be implemented as needed within the work zone. This work is anticipated to continue throughout the week, with traffic and parking restored to normal operating conditions by the end of each workday.
Starting Wednesday, August 12, Casella Construction, Inc. will also be removing trees in Central Square. Parking spaces near the tree removal work will be closed during active construction, and traffic lanes will be shifted as needed. This work is anticipated to take three days to complete, weather permitting. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal operating conditions by the end of each workday.
Marlboro Street: On Monday, August 10, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers, will continue construction on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project, including curb installation and sidewalk construction between Kelleher Street and Baker Street. Traffic will be maintained as alternating one-way traffic and/or shifted two-way traffic within the active work zone as needed. Normal traffic operations will resume at the end of each workday.
Key Road: On Monday, August 10, the City’s contractor, Park Construction, will continue installing the box culvert, catch basins, and tributary culverts in and behind the Keene Cinema Plaza. Parking areas and travel lanes within the parking lots will be restricted and/or detoured as needed. This work is anticipated to continue throughout the week and is expected to be completed in approximately three weeks.
George Street Bridge Replacement: On Monday, August 10, the City’s contractor, New England Infrastructure, Inc., will continue installing support-of-excavation systems (sheeting) and utilities on the west side of the bridge. George Street will remain closed, with traffic detoured for the duration of construction. The project is anticipated to take approximately 15 weeks to complete. Additional updates will be provided as the project progresses.
Blossom Street: Starting Monday, August 10, the City’s contractor, BC Construction, will excavate and install granite curb and concrete sidewalk on Blossom Street. Blossom Street will be closed to through traffic during construction. This work is anticipated to take the week to complete, weather permitting. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each workday.
Royal Avenue: Starting Monday, August 10, at 8:00 AM, the City’s contractor, Frank Lucius Construction, Inc., will install a water main gate valve on Royal Avenue at Dort Street. Royal Avenue traffic will be maintained as alternating one-way traffic during construction. This work is anticipated to take one day to complete, weather permitting. Affected property owners have been notified of the planned work and associated water outage. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of the workday. Paving restoration is scheduled for Friday, August 14, weather permitting.
Wakefield Street at Pinehurst Avenue: Starting Tuesday, August 11, at 8:00 AM, the City’s contractor, Frank Lucius Construction, Inc., will replace water main gate valves on Wakefield Street at Pinehurst Avenue. Wakefield Street and Pinehurst Avenue will be closed to through traffic during construction. This work is anticipated to take one day to complete, weather permitting. Affected property owners have been notified of the planned work and associated water outage. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of the workday. Paving restoration is scheduled for Friday, August 14, weather permitting.
McKinley Street: Starting Wednesday, August 12, at 8:00 AM, the City’s contractor, Frank Lucius Construction, Inc., will replace water main valves on McKinley Street at Fairview Street. McKinley Street traffic will be maintained as alternating one-way traffic during construction. This work is anticipated to take one day to complete, weather permitting. Affected property owners have been notified of the planned work and associated water outage. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of the workday. Paving restoration is scheduled for Friday, August 14, weather permitting.
Nelson Street: Starting Thursday, August 13, at 8:00 AM, the City’s contractor, Frank Lucius Construction, Inc., will install a water main valve on Nelson Street at Roosevelt Street. Nelson Street traffic will be maintained as alternating one-way traffic during construction. This work is anticipated to take one day to complete, weather permitting. Affected property owners have been notified of the planned work and associated water outage. Traffic will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of the workday. Paving restoration is scheduled for Friday, August 14, weather permitting.
Eastern Avenue and Transportation Heritage Trail Head: The City’s contractor, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance, will continue construction on the Transportation Heritage Trail, including reconstruction of the trailhead and drainage installation. Trailhead parking will remain closed during construction. The project is anticipated to continue through the coming weeks, with completion expected in October 2026.
City Hall Parking Garage: On Monday, August 10, the City’s contractor, Structural Preservation Systems, will begin installing the traffic membrane on the parking deck during nighttime hours. The parking deck will remain closed until August 17, weather permitting, when the parking garage is anticipated to reopen and normal operations resume. The City of Keene appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during these projects. For the safety of workers and the traveling public, please slow down, follow all posted traffic control devices, and use caution when traveling through construction areas.
