The Mayor read a proclamation at the Colonial Theater in Keene for the 30th anniversary of the Jumanji film to proclaim June 20-22, 2025, as “Jumanji 30th Anniversary Weekend” in the City of Keene, inviting all residents and visitors to join in the festivities and celebrate this enduring legacy that continues to bring joy and recognition to our vibrant community. In 1995 the blockbuster film Jumanji, starring the beloved Robin Williams, premiered, forever intertwining the fantastical world of the film with the picturesque streets of Keene, New Hampshire. The filming of Jumanji transformed our Central Square and gazebo into the memorable and fictional town of Brantford, New Hampshire, cementing our place in cinematic history. Today we welcome back special guests who were instrumental in bringing “Jumanji” to life, including renowned Location Manager Dow Griffith, whose discerning eye chose Keene as a pivotal filming location; actor Bradley Pierce, who captivated audiences as young Peter Shepherd; and prop master Dan Sissons, the artistic mind behind the iconic Jumanji board game itself. Their return marks a truly special occasion for our community, offering a unique opportunity to revisit the nostalgia of 1994-95 when filming occurred across our broader community in Keene, Swanzey, and Jaffrey. This weekend’s celebrations include screening of the Jumanji film at Keene’s century old Colonial Theater, a “Rhino Rumble Road Race,” a parade down Main Street, and more, culminating in a special closing ceremony and mural unveiling in Central Square on Sunday, June 22, promising entertainment for all ages while honoring our city’s unique connection to the film.
