Library Rules of Behavior

The Board of Trustees have adopted Behavioral Expectations on Dec 14, 2021 (Revised: 5/22/23).

Please help us enforce the rules. If you see something that is inappropriate, let staff know and they will respond.

  1. Share the inside space.

  2. Share the outside space. This includes keeping entrances accessible.

  3. Food and beverages, other than water, are only allowed in the Atrium, or in meeting rooms during scheduled events.

  4. Keep the furniture and equipment in good shape.

  5. Watch your belongings. Make sure that they are not in the way. Valuable items should remain in your possession at all times. The Library is not responsible for lost or misplaced items. Any items left behind and unclaimed within 14 days will be disposed of, donated to non-profit collection center or brought to the police.

  6. The Library offers spaces to accommodate quiet individual study, subdued conversation and group work or interactive learning and play. Visitors are expected to moderate their behaviors in a manner that respects the purpose of the space they are in or move to another location that better suits their activities.

  7. Disruptive, threatening, dangerous behavior or language of any kind is not allowed. Disruptive behavior may include running, throwing, eating, loud or abusive talking, bullying, fighting, vandalism, inappropriate public displays of affection, interfering with the reasonable activities of other patrons, or any other behavior deemed inappropriate by Library staff.

  8. Comply with current recommendations for health and safety protocols while on the Library campus. This includes the requirement that persons age 5 and over wear an appropriate face mask or face covering when proceeding into the Library spaces beyond the designated area of the Library Foyer during a declared state of a public health emergency.

  9. Wear personal attire appropriate for being in a public place.

  10. Being under the influence of, selling, using, or being in the possession of drugs, or alcohol is not allowed on the Library campus. Alcoholic beverages may be consumed only at licensed events. Vaping and the use of tobacco products are not allowed on the Library premises.

  11. Except for service animals as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, no animals or other pets shall be allowed in any part of the Library, unless the animals are part of a scheduled program.

  12. Soliciting, petitioning, canvassing, conducting surveys, or distributing materials on the Library campus is not allowed without the express permission of the Library management. If permitted, the activity will be conducted in accordance with the requirements of Library management and may not be disruptive to the operation of the Library.

  13. The Library can and will ask people to leave if they do not follow these rules after being reminded to do so. Minors should have a backup plan with parents in case they are asked to leave.

  14. Filming and photography is permitted under the conditions of the Photography, Recording and Videography Policy only to the extent that it does not interfere with the operations, programs and activities of the Library, and is consistent with state laws. Please notify Library staff if you object to yourself or a minor child being filmed or photographed.
