Building The Next 20 Years – An Invitation to Shape Keene’s Future

All are invited to join neighbors and local leaders for important visioning sessions starting June 17th.

Planning for Keene’s future involves shaping a bold vision for the community’s next twenty years, and public input is essential.  The City of Keene, in partnership with various community organizations, is hosting a series of visioning sessions during the week of June 17th to gather input.  Everyone’s insights and ideas will directly inform the creation of an updated Master Plan.

These sessions are part of the Vision Keene 20-Forward project, a community-wide planning effort to update the 2010 Comprehensive Master Plan. Phase 1 is a large-scale community visioning initiative that will create a Community Vision to guide policies and decision-making for the next 10-20 years. Central to this effort is in-depth community engagement including scenario planning in the form of the Vision Keene Think-Tank Workshop, Community Surveys, and Community Visioning Sessions.

“I am excited to be a part of this community-wide effort to advance Keene’s Master Plan,” says Harold Farrington, Chairperson of both the Keene Planning Board and the Vision Keene Steering Committee. “It is my hope that we will be able to engage all corners of the community and meld their ideas into an optimistic and attainable vision. Equally important for the team to deliver is a strong and practical road map for how we get there.”

Community members recently participated in a Think Tank workshop to share their priorities and goals for Keene.  This valuable input was used to create scenarios for the future.  At the upcoming visioning sessions, people will learn about the workshop results and the feedback from the first community survey and will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the preferred future for Keene to help make it even better.

“The Vision Keene 20-Forward project is enabling stakeholders and community members to come together to plan for the future of Keene,” says David Beurle, the CEO of Future IQ and the city’s consultant for this project. “This will lead to the clarification of priorities and actions that will define a clear roadmap to the future for the community.”
