Book Discussions in the Library and in the Community

Book clubs are a great way to share the joys of reading, as well as keep up with trends on the latest books and broaden one's tastes - not to mention enjoy the companionship of fellow readers. We have a number of book discussions that you can join. Or we can provide advice to help make your own club run more smoothly. To find out what book clubs and book discussion groups are going on at your library this month, check our online calendar

  • Great Short Stories

Welcome to the 37th year of the Great Short Stories (formerly Great Books) discussion group. Our group meets at the Keene Public Library on select dates (Check our online calendar for exact dates) starting at 2:00 p.m. and ending about 3:30 p.m. Our readings are from the following anthologies:

    • The Best American Short Stories of the Century, ed. by John Updike and Katrina Kenison, c1999.
    • The Penguin Book of the Modern American Short Story ed. by John Freeman, c2021

The library has copies of these books and can make copies of individual stories for program participants.

Our discussions are dedicated to a close reading of the text, facilitated by a leader. We take turns acting as discussion facilitator. The leader does not act as a teacher, but poses questions that lead to a shared inquiry into the text's meaning and relevance.

For a list of the Spring 2025 readings and meeting dates, or if you have questions please contact Amy Kraemer (603) 352-0157
