October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It is estimated that 310,000 women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and that breast cancer will be the cause of death for over 40,000 women.  Many women and their families in our region have experienced breast cancer and have found that the treatment options at the Cheshire Medical Center have saved their lives.

I asked the President of Cheshire Medical Center, Dr. Joe Perras, if he could provide a statement to me about Breast Cancer Awareness and from him I received the following from Dr. Guy Burman, Director of CMC's Breast Care Center.

"Your neighbors at The Breast Care Center are encouraging all women, age 40 and older, to get their mammogram and discuss their risk of developing breast cancer with their medical provider.  Cheshire Medical Center’s Breast Care Center has been nationally accredited by the American College of Surgeons since 2017. This recognizes that the Breast Care Center is one of a select group in the nation which meets strict standards. The Center’s focus is to bring world class, coordinated care and support for our patients with diseases of the breast, right here in Keene."

Please pass this message along.  We are all responsible for our medical care and decisions, and regular testing and diagnoses are what each of us need to ensure.
