Every year, librarians across New Hampshire come together to nominate nine
exceptional picture books for the New Hampshire State Library’s Ladybug Picture Book
Award. This award honors the wonderful children’s picture books published annually,
and encourages a love of reading among young children. This year’s nominees for the
Ladybug Picture Book Award are:
- 100 Mighty Dragons All Named Broccoli by David LaRochelle and Lian Cho
- A is For Axolotl by Catherine Macorol
- Bears are Best! by Joan Holub and Laurie Keller
- Beneath by Cori Doerrfeld
- Big by Vashti Harrison
- Gibberish by Young Vo
- I am a Tornado by Drew Beckmeyer
- The Mermaid with No Tail by Jessica Long and Airin O’Callaghan
- Once Upon A Book by Grace Lin and Kate Messner
This November, children from preschool to third grade across New Hampshire will have
the exciting opportunity to vote for their favorite book among the nominees. The voting
process for the Ladybug Picture Book Award is a wonderful way to foster early literacy
and promote a lifelong love of reading.
Join us on Saturday, November 16th for the annual Ladybug Book Festival hosted by
the Keene Public Library, where children in the Keene Community can engage with the
nominated books in an interactive and fun-filled environment. Students from Keene
State College’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society for
Education, will lead engaging STEM activities, games, and crafts inspired by each
nominated book, along with captivating read-aloud sessions. Families will have the
chance to explore each book in depth before their children cast their votes for the
Ladybug Picture Book Award winner.
Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate reading and literacy in our community!
