The Keene Fire Department was dispatched at 1046 hours to 68 Park Ave. in Keene for a reported house fire.
The first Fire Department units (Utility 4, Engine 1, Ladder 2, Car 3 and C2) arrived on scene at 1046 hours and reported a 2-story house with fire showing in the basement and on the 1st floor of the house. Fire crews utilized three handlines to extinguish the fire and check for extension. A 2nd alarm was sounded at 1047 hours for additional units and manpower to the scene to assist with extinguishment and checking for extension. The bulk of the fire was knocked down by 1106 hours and crews worked for the next hour to assure extinguishment of the fire. The fire was called under control at 1133 hours.
Keene crews were assisted on scene by Keene Police, Swanzey Fire, Brattleboro Fire, Southwest Fire Mutual Aid and Eversource. Additional crews from Peterborough, Spofford, Walpole and Chesterfield were assigned to cover the Keene stations during the incident.
The Keene Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. Building and contents damage is estimated at $200,000 dollars.
