PRESS RELEASE – January 8, 2019
The Keene Fire Department was dispatched at 1411 hours to a reported mobile home on fire at 98 Sparrow Street.
Ladder 2, Tanker 1, Engine 1, Car 3, C1 and C2, and arrived on-scene at 1416 hours with heavy smoke and fire showing from a 12-foot X 40-foot mobile home with an attached carport. The engine crews stretched handlines to extinguish the fire. A 2nd alarm was dispatched at 1418 hours for additional units and manpower to the scene to assist. No one was home at the time of the fire. Efforts were made to revive the five pets that perished in the fire. The fire was called under control at 1450 hours.
Keene crews were assisted on scene by Keene Police, Swanzey Fire, Southwest Fire Mutual Aid Dispatch personnel and Eversource Utilities. Crews from Swanzey, Spofford, Walpole and DiLuzio Ambulance assisted with covering additional calls during the incident.
The Keene Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire. Fire damage is estimated at $80,000.
