At 0212 this morning, both Keene Fire stations were alerted to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 East at Route 10, involving a car and a tractor trailer unit with one vehicle reportedly on fire and a subject lying next to the vehicle on the ground.  Engine-1, Rescue-1, Car-4 responded from Station-1; Ladder-2 and Ambulance-2 responded from Station-2.  Upon arrival Car-4 reported heavy damage with a single vehicle fully involved with fire.  The female driver, presumed to have been ejected from the vehicle, was pulled away from the burning car by Keene Police Department personnel prior to the arrival of the Fire Department.

Upon arrival Engine-1 worked to extinguish the vehicle fire, Ladder-2 worked to contain fluids leaking from the tractor trailer unit and checked the area for other potential victims, and Ambulance-2 and Rescue-1 provided Advanced Life Support to the injured female.

Due to inclement weather in the area, no medical helicopters were available to respond. The female was transported to Cheshire Medical Center with serious traumatic injuries.

An ambulance from Cheshire County EMS was requested to the scene to assess the driver of the tractor trailer unit who ultimately denied injury and declined transport.  Cheshire County EMS reported to Station-1 along with a fire engine from Swanzey to cover the city while Keene units were committed to the scene of the accident.

The scene was turned over to the Keene Police Department for further investigation of the cause of the accident.

Estimated Property Loss: Both vehicles sustained significant damage.  Keene Fire assessed the motor vehicle as a total loss. The contents of the tractor trailer unit did not appear to be affected in the accident.

Fire Origin and Cause:   The cause of the incident is under investigation by the Keene Police Department.  Any questions regarding cause, fault, or names of those involved should be referred to the Keene Police Department.
