The Keene Fire Department was dispatched at 0314 hours to the Fairfield Inn and Suites at 30 Main Street for automatic fire alarm activation.
Just prior to arrival, dispatch received a phone call from the Fairfield Inn stating that they had a fire in the bar and the fire response was upgraded to a 1st alarm at 0315 hrs.
The first fire department units (Ladder 2, Car 3 and Engine 1) arrived on scene at 0316 hours. Upon arrival, crews found a fire in an ice machine in the bar. The fire was quickly extinguished and the ice machine was removed from the building. No fire extension to the building was found, however, there was a smoke condition on all three floors that required extensive ventilation. The fire was called under control at 0327 hours.
The Fairfield Inn and Suites had a total of 62 occupants that needed to be relocated due to amount of residual smoke throughout the hotel. 40 of the residents were relocated to the Marriot located on Railroad Street. The Keene Fire Department appreciates all of the cooperation and patience that everyone displayed at the hotel.
Crews from Swanzey Fire, DiLuzio Ambulance, Spofford Fire and Brattleboro Fire assisted with answering additional calls and assisted with covering the City.
The Keene Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire. Fire damage is estimated at $1000 dollars.
